"Art is never finished, only abandoned" -Leonardo da Vinci

Welcome

Artist Statement

My name is Leonila Zapien,  a Mexican-American digital artist from Tracy, California. When I was little, my first mediums were drawing and painting, but since then, I have grown into a versatile artist. Having my skills expand to include video editing, 3D modeling, photography, illustration, and sculpting. I currently run a business specializing in videography for soccer players, primarily on social media platforms.

Sports have always played a significant role in my life. I have always dreamed of contributing to the world of sports, and now I help young athletes by creating videos they can submit to colleges. I am continually seeking new ways to blend my artistic vision with sports and storytelling.

The intersection of video, sports, and art has always fascinated me. This passion allows me to reveal the artistry within athletics and to broaden my creative perspective. By telling athletes' stories through video, I strive to understand their unique experiences and help communicate their journeys to a wider audience. Thus expanding to experiences that others may be living and trying to tell their story as well.

During my time at San Jose State University, I have had multiple opportunities to explore art ideas I would have considered useless when I was younger, but I have grown accustomed to the freedom I have been given here. To help find and combine my love of the arts with the world of sports, even going beyond that. Soon, this led me to explore how to combine physical and digital media to create my art stories.

My inspiration to understand and perceive others' untold stories has enabled me to explore many suppressed topics that have gone unnoticed. To show the beauty of the unappreciated, tell stories of the unheard. I want to continue this and incorporate it into every art piece I make.
